No Whining! Dealing with the Deluge

It's hard to believe that two weeks have past since we were inundated by ravaging flash floods, encroaching ground water and a powerful river gushing out of its banks.  "Time flies whether you are having fun or not!"

To the hundreds of people I know who have been dealing with lost family members, ruined homes, shorted electronics, soggy insulation, molded drywall and empty pockets, let's say "Salute" to one another. When a community enters into the recovery process of an enormous adversity like this "1,000 Year" flood of 2010, the best comes out in the people.  Working side by side, encouraging another while concerned for your own situation, being grateful that it wasn't worse: all expand the sense of community like nothing else.

Hats off to you Franklin and Nashville. There are no whiners here! Only winners.

It will be months before everyone is back to 'normal' (whatever that is...).  Our comeback will be as a  stronger, more humble, concentric community with a sense of purpose like never before.

Think about what you can do to stay motivated and inspire others to stay the course and win the race. Here are my five for today.

  1. Make eye contact and smile - Human connections are powerful.
  2. Listen - We've all got a flood story and it's cathartic to share.
  3. Strategize - Brainstorm with others about ways to collaborate for a faster recovery.
  4. Execute - Create a timeline of milestone accomplishments and celebrate as each one is reached.
  5. Reflect - Think about the learnings from the event and use them to power-up for a bright future.
The very well-done amateur video at this LINK is indicative of the spirit of community support of which we are all proud to be a part.
Find a way to help and be helped! YOU ARE THE VOLUNTEER STATE!
